"My presentation will concern the centrality that I attribute to the physical spaces where 21st century humanity will undertake its own distinctive forms of accessing, curating, producing, performing, and exchanging knowledge across the digital/analog divide. The question of the future of the library, as I envisage it, is not one of digital information vs. printed books, databases vs. stacks, or old library service models vs. new ones, but rather one of architecture and design, on the one side, and new cognitive protocols, on the other. It’s a question of design that involves the meshing of two futures: those of the container and the contained, the “library” and the “book.”"
